GOVERNMENT has been urged to quicken the process of finding land where close to 200 families that were displaced by Zambia Wildlife Authority (ZAWA) in Lukusuzi National Park in Eastern Province could be relocated.
Last year in December, ZAWA burnt houses for people that had encroached into Lukusuzi National Park in Lundazi District.
Lumezi Member of Parliament Isaac Banda said the matter was taking too long to be resolved.
He explained that the families had already been subjected to unbearable sufferings as they spent almost the whole rainy season in the cold.
Mr Banda said Chieftainess Mwasemphangwe had promised to accommodate about 10 families but Government needed to find an alternative land for the other families.
“The Government should find an alternative land for the displaced squatters whose houses were burnt by ZAWA in my constituency,” he said.
He said the Government must also plan on how to assist the families with relief food.
The villagers were left homeless after ZAWA officers burnt down their houses for encroaching on land in the Lukusuzi National Park in Lumezi Constituency of Lundazi District.
