GOVERNMENT says the setting up of a dry port and other facilities at Chipata –Mchinji railway line is expected to gobble approximately US$10 million.
Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo disclosed in Chipata last Friday that a good number of facilities needed the services of the dry port.
Mr Kasolo said there was need to construct a dry port for offloading and loading of heavy duty cargos such as vehicles, copper stating that the dry port needed other supporting facilities such as machinery, wall fence and warehouses which would cost approximately US$10 million.
He said the provincial administration would work hand in hand with the Zambia Railways Limited to draw up a solid plan for the dry port.
Mr Kasolo explained that once constructed, the dry port would transform Eastern Province with economic activities.
“I know the dry port is going to transform Eastern Province once constructed at Chipata-Mchinji railway line.
As a provincial administration together with Zambia Railways Limited we need to draw up a solid plan for dry port,” he said.
