Zesco 0 Nakambala 0
ZESCO United missed an opportunity to to go six points clear at the summit of the MTN-FAZ Super League table after the champions were left frustrated by a struggling Nakambala Leopards side in this Week 18 fixture.
Despite failing to collect maximum points yesterday, a point was enough to see Zesco open up a four-point lead at the top on 40 points and second placed Power Dynamos was stunned at home by Green Buffaloes.
The biggest beneficiaries were Zanaco who beat Nchanga Rangers to close the gap on Zesco to five points on a weekend that saw Nkana get back to winning ways.
During the game, luck was on not on Zesco’s side as the Ndola outfit was denied by the post on three occasions and striker Winston Kalengo missed a golden chance that could have put his side in the driving seat on 33 minutes.
Nakambala, under the tutelage of Patrick Phiri were more resolute than ever before as they put up an impressive display to snatch a deserved point that lifted them off the bottom on goal difference on 14 points.
Power 0 Buffaloes 1
BUFFALOES ended their two-match losing streak in style when they shocked their hosts Power to move to 26 points but in sixth place, reports KALUMIANA KALUMIANA at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
A breathtaking Jack Chirwa free kick in the 43rd minute pumped from the centre line, beat a startled Joshua Titima before shaking the top left hand corner of the net.
The goal was also a massive consolation for Buffaloes who had coach Bilton Musonda sent-off in the 32nd minute following a protracted altercation with referee Stanley Hachiwa over a foul that the latter ignored a foul on Mambo Phiri by Lawrence Chungu.
Zanaco 3 Rangers 2
RANGERS failed to hold on to a lead allowing Zanaco to snatch a vital win to close the gap on second placed Power to just a point after this exciting five-goal thriller at Sunset Stadium, reports SANDRA MWILA.
Rangers took the lead in the 10th minute through Clement Mwape who tapped in a Billy Imoonda pass but the visitor’s celebrations were short-lived as Roderick Kabwe equalised a minute later after finishing off a Moses Phiri cross.
Aubrey Funga then got on the score sheet to get a brace giving the bankers the lead in the 68th minute before scoring his second in the 74th minute thanks to a long range strike outside the box.
But Rangers, with coach Fighton Simukonda on bench, were not done as Fashion Sakala reduced the deficit in the 79th minute having hit the cross bar minutes later to set up a tense finish to the game that saw Zanaco hold on to a precious win. Rangers are on 16 points.
Nkwazi 0 Nkana 1
Nkana picked up their first win in as many matches played after beating a well organised Nkwazi in a tense match played before a huge crowd at Edwin Imboela Stadium, reports GWEN CHIPASULA.
Freddy Shimenda scored via a header for Nkana in the 25th minute after finishing off a Jimmy Ndhlovu pass. Ndhlovu had a good chance to double Nkana’s lead but failed to beat Nkwazi keeper Makas Kalaba in goal as the former champions moved two places up on 22 points while Nkwazi are stuck on 29 points.
Assembly 0 Wanderers 1
At Woodlands Stadium, ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers picked up their second straight win thanks to a solitary Progress Kalenga goal in the 72nd minute.
