DangoteBy MILDRED KATONGO –
PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu is today expected to officially launch the US$450 million Dangote Cement plant in Masaiti on the Copperbelt.
The President will also commission the 30-Mega Watts (MW) coal-fired power plant to be used at the cement plant.
Nigeria’s Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is also expected in the country to attend the launch.
President Lungu wound up campaign programmes in Samfya where he was drumming up support for Patriotic Front (PF) candidate Anthony Kasandwe before arriving in Ndola for yet another busy schedule.
The cement plant owned by Nigerian business mogul, Aliko Dangote is expected to operate at a 90 per cent capacity but would produce around 1.5 million tonnes annually once operating at full capacity.
The project would also see the creation of more than 1,000 jobs.
Mr Dangote, 57, is listed on the Forbes list as Africa’s richest man with net assets worth U$$21.6  billion.
He arrived in Ndola aboard his private jet yesterday.
