Sikwela 300x174By MAYA NTANDA –

KALULUSHI on the Copperbelt has received K97 million for road infrastructure development.
Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Howard Sikwela said more than K97.6 million had been spent on the upgrading and tarring of roads in Kalulushi.
Reverend Sikwela, who inspected the road works yesterday, said a good road network was an essential component of development.
He said as a result of infrastructure development taking place, jobs had been created for the local people and that movement of goods and services was easier.
“We are here to look at road infrastructure. The road network is an essential component of development of the country and when we talk about roads, we are talking about the economy of the country, which makes the living standards of the people easier.
“It is not only Kalulushi or Copperbelt Province alone where these developments are taking place, but all the 10 provinces of Zambia are benefitting,” he said.
Rev Sikwela, who expressed happiness with the contractor, China Civil over the works done, also said health posts would soon be constructed in Kalulushi.
Kalulushi acting Town Clerk Katai Kamboyi said the works covered Nkana, Zambezi and Luampu roads, representing more than 88.8 per cent of works carried out so far.
Area District Commissioner Kampamba Mulenga expressed happiness over the pace and quality of works.
Ms Mulenga said more roads needed to be tarred and that more projects such as schools and clinics were required to service the town’s growing population.
Rev Sikwela also toured the road infrastructure in Chililabombwe.
