RTSA 628x350By CHUSA SICHONE –

THE Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has apprehended a 44-year-old Kanyama Township man, pretending to be its official, for attempting to extort K1,500 from a Lamasat Investments employee for traffic offences.
The 44-year-old identified as Robin Muyengu was found with a fake RTSA identity card and handed over to the Police together with another male who had accompanied him to Lamasat Investments to collect money from the motorist.
RTSA public relations manager Mukela Mangolwa said in a statement yesterday that Muyengu allegedly demanded money from the motorist for dangerous driving and using a mobile phone whilst driving.
Mr Mangolwa said Muyengu had initially collected K300 but returned to demand more and is alleged to have been extorting money from unsuspecting motorists for some time.
“The two men are expected to appear in the Fast Track Court on Monday on a charge of impersonating a RTSA officer,” Mr Mangolwa said.
In another development, a Zambeef driver died on the spot yesterday after a road traffic accident on the Great North Road in Kabwe.
The body of the man, who was driving a DAF truck, is lying in Kabwe General Hospital mortuary while the drivers of the Petand Transport truck and the Toyota Mark II vehicle only sustained minor injuries.
