Zindaba SokoBY SYLVIA MWEETWA –

THE ROAD Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has welcomed the detention of seven of its officers following the theft of security papers.
Police in Kabwe recently apprehended seven RTSA officers along with a Tanzanian clearing agent to assist with investigations over the theft of the security papers.
The six were based in Kabwe while the seventh, was from Solwezi in North Western Province.
RTSA chief executive officer Zindaba Soko said the Agency would allow the security wings to investigate and ensure that those found wanting faced the law.
Mr Soko said the Agency would not protect or shield any officer involved in corrupt dealings and that, the exercise to clear corrupt officers would continue.
“We cannot allow Government funds to go without being accounted for. It is for this reason that all the money which was collected and paid using the lost security papers be recovered  from the officers found wanting, because that is the only way to stop such acts, ”he said.
He assured the public that the money that was paid by motorists would be recovered from the officers who would be found with a case to answer.
Mr Soko said  recently the  Agency impounded 14 Tanzanian trucks and later discovered that they had been issued with forged documentation which had raised suspicion.
He said the owners of trucks were later summoned from Tanzania and assured the public that  the agency would continue to ensure sanity was maintained at all time when issuing receipts  of licences.
“We want to see the police carry out their investigations and if need be, we will support any  convictions of officers found wanting by the courts of law,”he said.
