THREE of Zambia’s representatives at the ongoing Hockey Africa Cup of Club Championships have been eliminated after failing to win a single game.
Lusaka Sharks and D.E Stars women and men’s teams were yesterday eliminated following their two straight losses at the tournament being held at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
D.E stars women’s team suffered a 6-0 thrashing to Ghana Revenue Authority in their opening match before Egyptian side Sharkia handed then a 9-0 bashing while the men’s team lost 2-10 to Niger Flickers of Nigeria following their 2-9 first match loss to defending champions Eastern Company.
Sharks lost both games with the first against Ghana’s Trustees which was a 3-1 defeat followed by a 10-2 thumping to Sharkia.
More bad news followed the Zambian teams as the remaining side, Sharks women’s team, lost their first game 2-0 yesterday to defending champion Orange Hockey Club from Kenya.
Other teams that have bowed out of the competition include Weatherhead from Uganda, who also lost two games against Sharkia and Ghana Revenue Authority, and there is one more round to be played in the groups stages before the semi finals get underway on Friday.
Meanwhile, D.E stars club manager Dalitso Tembo expressed disappointment with poor results and early exit, saying it was clear that the players lacked confidence and were intimidated by the experienced teams.
