GOVERNMENT has advised women and youths in Solwezi District to take advantage of the abundant land and a good rainfall pattern being experienced in the region and venture into agricultural production. Acting Solwezi District Commissioner Chipawa Chipawa said venturing into agriculture would enable women and youths contribute to the development of the district. “People need to take advantage of the good rain pattern and fertile soil in North-Western Province and Solwezi in particular and engage in agricultural production, noting that there is a readily available market for agricultural products,” Mr Chipawa said. He called on women and youths to form cooperatives and submit relevant documentation to legalise their existence in order to be assisted in their various enterprises they want to engage in. Mr Chipawa has noted that the district’s population has grown and that the development has created market for agriculture products due to increased food demand by the local people. He was impressed with the savings initiative by Bukomo Women’s Saving Group in Jiundu Settlement Scheme in Kalumbila. Mr Chipawa has since discouraged women from depending on handouts stating that no country can develop if they depended on being assisted all the times. The Bukomo Women’s Group has since saved over K50 000. –NAIS
