CHIEF Government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili says Government will not interfere in disputes among traditional leaders.
Mr Kambwili who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Minister said it was not Government’s mandate to resolve disputes among traditional leaders.
Mr Kambwili said in Luwingu recently that Government would allow traditional leaders to dialogue and resolve the misunderstandings that arose within themselves.
“Government will not interfere in resolving the disputes among traditional leaders. Let them dialogue and iron out differences on their own. The House of Chiefs can help resolve any disputes especially issues to do with land among the traditional leaders,” he said.
He said the land wrangles among chiefs in Luwingu should be resolved peacefully and the Government would not interfere.
Luwingu District Commissioner Patrick Chanda said there were some boundary disputes between two of the traditional leaders in Luwingu and Chilubi districts.
Mr Chanda said a traditional leader from Chilubi District expressed interest in exploring the mineral deposits that had been discovered in Luwingu and wanted to extend the territorial boundaries.
“We have some territorial boundary disputes between two chiefs. The traditional leader from Chilubi wants to extend the boundary into the chiefdom in Luwingu because of the mineral deposits that have been discovered,” he said
Meanwhile the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) in Luwingu District has captured 33, 900 voters who represent the highest number in Northern Province.
Mr Chanda said massive sensitisation on the voter registration exercise was carried out and yielded the required results.
