SCORES of Kabwe traders and marketeers on Thursday marched in the streets in solidarity with President Edgar Lungu’s initiative aimed at empowering them with soft loans.

The procession which started along Lusaka Road comes barely a week after Presidential Initiative coordinator Chanda Kabwe toured several markets in Kabwe explaining the modalities of the disbursement of the loans.

The marchers who were drawn from different markets across Kabwe carried various placards welcoming and commending the presidential initiative which was aimed at empowering traders and vendors.

They were later addressed by Kabwe District commissioner Patrick Chishala who assured them that President Edgar Lungu was committed to helping marketeers in Zambia.

PF Kabwe district chairman Mulenga Chella said the traders were happy with the initiative and pledged to vote for Mr Lungu in this year’s general elections.

He said empowerment of traders through loans had never happened before hence the need to maintain the current Government to achieve more development.

“On their part, they are very happy because this is the first time that marketeers are being given an opportunity to get loans, it has never happened before and they don’t want to change Government,” he said.
