AGRICULTURE Minister Given Lubinda has told Zambians that any opposition leader asking them to boycott the YES referendum vote, is campaigning for homosexuality in Zambia.
Mr Lubinda, a key member of the Patriotic Front campaign team told the pro-youth Power FM radio in an interview that the referendum sought to give Zambians, the power to access basics such as health and education.
“The discussion on the Bill of Rights is a matter of concern to us. I would like to speak about it because I have heard some people in opposition saying Zambians should not vote for the Bill of Rights in the referendum and this is a source of worry. The new Bill of Rights provides rights to education and rights to marriage,” Mr Lubinda said.
The minister who is also seeking re-election in Lusaka’s Kabwata constituency said what had unsettled many in the opposition was that they wanted the words ‘opposite sex’  to be deleted from the Constitution.
“It is an offence by law to stop a person from voting. Go and vote for the referendum because it is in this that you will find a right to education, a right to safe water, a right to health. How can any normal person tell you not to vote for such rights?” he asked.
He said the opposition did not want the referendum because they knew their campaign funds were from gay activists which the Bill of Rights did not allow.
