THE National House of Prayer advisory board has said all is set for today’s National Day of Prayer.
Chairperson Joshua Banda said invitations had been sent to the public, including political parties and that activities would start at 14:00 hours although those in attendance were expected to arrive at venues an hour earlier.
Bishop Banda said the event was a State function to be held countrywide and that in Lusaka, prayers would be held at the show grounds.
“All is set right now, invitations have gone out to all and so far, we have received very positive responses,” he said.
Bishop Banda said today’s national prayers would provide the country an opportunity to pray for peace before, during and after the August 11, 2016 general elections, forgiveness, love, unity and tolerance.
Bishop Banda clarified that the event was not for politicians alone, but that the focus had somewhat skewed towards them as the prayers involved an aspect of peace during elections they were participating in and thus, would use their influence to preach peace.
“This National Day of Prayer is around the theme of ‘No to violence’ and committing to peaceful elections, forgiveness, love, unity, tolerance and so forth,” he said.
Addressing United Church of Zambia (UCZ) congregants in Siavonga recently, President Edgar Lungu challenged the Church to urgently organise a National Day of Prayer against political violence and that all political parties participating in the elections should attend.
On October 18, last year, the country held prayers and President Lungu declared that date as a public holiday.
