By HELLEN TEMBO –
PEOPLE buying customary land from headmen in Chief Bundabunda’s area in Rufunsa District risk losing their money after the Chief is installed, one of the royal family members Kenneth Chipungu has said.
Mr Chipungu said the traditional land was not for sale but was meant to be given to subjects of the chiefdom for free.
Mr Chipungu who is former Rufunsa Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister said due to shortage of land in Lusaka people were anxious to buy land in Chief Bundabunda’s  area.
He said this in an interview that those buying land from Chief Bundabunda’s area were risking not only losing their money but the land too.
“We haven’t had a chief in Bundabunda for the past three years from the time Chief Patrick Chakalashi died and the case is in court because there are two families that think they can ascend to the
throne,” Mr Chipungu said.
He said knowing that there was no leadership of such that’s why there was indiscriminate selling of land in the area.
Mr Chipungu said if one bought a land from the headmen there was no way they could get title deeds because the chief was the only one entitled to offer land.
He said the new chief that would come would not  recognise the purchased land from headmen.
Mr Chupungu also warned the headmen who were selling land in the area to stop and that it was illegal to sale traditional land.
