A TWENTY-THREE-year-old woman of Mpulungu in Northern Province has been arrested for allegedly killing her 33-year-old husband using a bottle of beer after a misunderstanding.
Northern Province Deputy Police chief Edwin Bwanga said it happened at a bar after a dispute between the couple which ensued as they were celebrating the dawn of 2018.
He said the incident happened around 02:00 hours.
“I can confirm that a woman has been arrested for allegedly murdering her husband at a bar where they went to celebrate the New Year,” he said.
Mr Bwanga identified the deceased as Andrew Tembo who he said has however, been buried.
He said the deceased was hit with a bottle of beer and sustained a deep cut on the neck.
Meanwhile, a 10-year-old -girl of Shikasoka village in Mpika has died after being hit by a speeding vehicle.
Muchinga Police Commissioner Chola Katanga said the deceased identified as Prosperina Katongo was hit by a speeding vehicle as she tried to cross the road.
Mr Katanga said the girl sustained multiple bruises on the body, swollen head and suspected fractured ribs and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Chilonga Mission Hospital.
He said the driver of the vehicle Kalumba Lupasha aged 26 of Tazara township has since been detained for causing death by dangerous driving.
Mr Katanga said the incident happened on Tuesday around 13:20 hours at Kaombe area 33 kilometers south of Mpika.
“We have a report in which a girl has died after being hit by a speeding motor vehicle. The girl was trying to cross the road. She sustained multiple injuries and suspected fractured ribs. She died upon arrival at the hospital,” he said.
Mr Katanga said the body of the deceased was lying in the mortuary and that the vehicle had been impounded.
