CHIEFS and Traditional Affairs Minister Lawrence Sichalwe says the Government is this year scheduled to complete the construction of 30 chiefs’ palaces under the first phase following the release of K23 million by the Ministry of Finance.
Mr Sichalwe said 10 palaces had already been completed as at December last year, leaving a balance of 20, which would be ready this year as the Ministry of Finance had released K22.8 million for that purpose.
Mr Sichalwe said in an interview yesterday that the palaces were being constructed at different costs in line with the bill of quantities availed by provincial administrations.
“As we were closing the year (2017), we completed 10 palaces, the other 20 are being concluded this year so that we do the second phase,” Mr Sichalwe said.
Mr Sichalwe said the target was to construct three palaces per province and cited Northern Province as the area where works would be completed by the end of this month.
Mr Sichalwe said further that 30 more palaces were earmarked to be constructed in the second phase.
