A UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) councillor in Kazungula has praised the Patriotic Front (PF) Government for effectively handling the Cholera outbreak in Zambia.
Mandia Ward Councillor Milner Simbangu said President Edgar Lungu had shown exemplary leadership by directing all local authorities in the country to embark on a vigorous cleaning campaign in order to stop the spread of cholera.
In an interview yesterday, Mr Simbangu urged Zambians to support the keep Zambia campaign initiated by President Lungu.
“The best way I can express myself is out of gratitude for what Government has done in bringing sanity and cleanliness in the country, especially here in Kazungula. Residents of Kazungula are so happy with the move taken by Government to relocate street vendors to designated trading places,” Mr Simbangu said.
He called on politicians, regardless of their political affiliation, to support the initiatives taken by the Government in addressing the cholera epidemic.
“Every Zambian is concerned about the issue of cholera and it is a national crisis that shouldn’t be politicised by any politician,” Mr Simbangu said.
“Kazungula council through the able leadership of Given Muleya as council secretary has worked hard such that together with other stakeholders, we have managed to clear all the garbage at the border and the street vendors have been moved to designated places.”
The UPND civic leader also praised various stakeholders in the district for their concerted efforts in keeping the border town clean.
“Working with the bridge contractors, we have also been cleaning all townships in the district starting from four ways to one of the most notorious compounds, Makalanguzu,” Mr Simbangu said.
He assured residents of Kazungula that the district was not going to record any cholera case as a result of the robust cleaning campaign.
“I can give an assurance to my people that no matter how it is going to rain in Kazungula, we will not record any cholera outbreak due to the good leadership that I have provided as a councillor, working together with Government wings,” Mr Simbangu said.
