By MARTIN MUSUNKA –
FIRST Quantum Minerals (FQM) has engaged the Ministry of General Education and other stakeholders to set the tone on how to improve the quality of education in North-Western Province.
FQM, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) platforms at Kansanshi Mining Plc and Kalumbila Minerals Limited, has made commitments to support quality education and is determined to improve educational outcomes for children and young people in the region.
Trident Foundation, the CSR wing at Kalumbila Minerals, working closely with the Kansanshi Mining Plc counterparts at Kansanshi Foundation in Solwezi will get to a round-table with a cross-section representation from, among others, district education board secretaries (DEBS) for Solwezi and Kalumbila districts, parent teachers associations (PTAs), head teachers and their deputies.
Trident Foundation manager, Garth Lappeman said in an interview in Kalumbila that, concerned about the low levels of education in the area, FQM was prepared to provide unwavering support in developing best practises in the improvement of education standards in Solwezi and Kalumbila districts and surrounding areas.
He said, to that effect, a multi-stakeholder planning meeting has been scheduled for next month in Solwezi where officials from the Ministry of General Education, and Trident, Kansanshi and Educore foundations, DEBSs, teachers with their heads and deputies would participate in coming up with effective interventions for continuous educational improvements.
Mr Lappeman said the February 15 collective planning gathering would take into account various components highlighted in the memorandum of understanding (MoU) which was packaged with focus on feasible goals and benchmarks in the improvement of education standards in the province. – Story courtesy of SUMA SYSTEMS
