KASAMA Central Member of Parliament Kelvin Sampa has given K35,000 to over 150  marketeers from three major markets in Kasama district of Northern Province.
Mr Sampa said he will endeavor to uplift the welfare of the informal sector because the Government valued the role the marketeers play in the economy.
Speaking in an interview yesterday, he said beneficiaries of the funds were from New Town, Chikumanino and Chambeshi markets.
“I will not turn a blind eye on the needy in my constituency especially that the call and role of the PF Government is to provide service and uplift the welfare of the people. Marketeers play a major role in improving our economy thus we need to render service to them to boost their business,” he said.
Mr Sampa said the interest free revolving fund given to the marketeers would boost their businesses and improve the living standards of their families.
He added that the initiative which was primarily targeted to uplift the wellbeing of women and youths, is an ongoing programme and people must remain patient as it would benefit everyone from time to time.
The lawmaker has in another development empowered a local widow Roydah Chanda with K1,000.
He said it was heartbreaking after he noted that the woman had lost her business after her only source of survival, a store in Chisanga village was last month destroyed to pave way for the construction of Tazara-Chisanga Road.
He has however, urged all the beneficiaries to use the funds prudently so that they could generate more income and grow their businesses.
