Chienge man kills brother over cigarette

A TWENTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD Chienge man has killed his brother who he accused of stealing beer and cigarettes when the two went on a drinking spree.
The Police have arrested the man to help with investigations.
Luapula Province Police chief Elias Chushi confirmed the incident in an interview yesterday.
Mr Chushi said the incident happened on February 27, 2018 when the two brothers went to drink beer around 19:00 hours.
He identified the deceased as Mwasha Kasongole aged 22 and the suspect as Paul Kasongole both of Sakala village in Chief Puta’s Chiefdom.
Mr Chushi said  the suspect assaulted his brother using his fists who sustained severe injuries and was later admitted to Chienge district hospital were he met his fate.
He said that the deceased sustained several bruises on his face and painful ribs.
“Despite the brother denying the accusation the suspect still beat him severely such that that he had to be admitted to the  hospital, after eye witnesses rescued him, “ he said.
Mr Chushi said that postmortem was conducted and the suspect had been arrested and charged with an offense of murder.
He said  police advised the family to bury the body as they waited for results to determine what could have caused the death.
Mr Chushi advised youths in the community to venture into something productive that would help them improve their livelihood than spending time drinking beer.
