Four boxers picked for Youth Boxing Championships

EXCITING upstart boxer Davy Mwale will lead a four-member Zambia team to the Africa Youth Boxing Championships set for Morocco in May.
Mwale would be joined in the travelling party by Benny Banda, Violet Phiri and Hildah Ng’andwe for the event set for May 7-13 in Casablanca by.
Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) general secretary Bright Chomba, who released the names, said the four boxers were expected in to enter camp on Monday at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
“We are happy as the federation about the four boxers we have picked and we urge them to work hard so they represent the country well,” Chomba said.
He said the training camp was sponsored by government under the Performance Podium Programme (PPP) and that all was in place.
Chomba, however, said ZBF is scouting for K70, 000 to send the four and two coaches for the Youth championships.
He said the amount is meant to carter for travelling and other logistics while the boxers would be in Morocco.
“Our budget to send the four boxers and two coaches is K70, 000 and we are hoping to raise the funds in good time because we only have few weeks before the championship. We are appealing to the corporate world to come and assist us raise the money,” he said.
