By KASONDE KASONDE –
THE Patriotic Front (PF) has accused the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) of politicising the Constitution Amendment Bill and calling for a dialogue, a process they have failed to appreciate.
PF media director Sunday Chanda said the dialogue attitude that the UPND had shown was not progressive and they were throwing tantrums and accusing international bodies that they had been bought by the Government.
Mr Chanda said last week UPND chief whip Jack Mwiimbu indicated that his party would block the Constitution Amendment Bill because they wanted it to be a subject of dialogue and not Parliamentary processes.
He said the duty to make laws falls within Parliament, but the UPND would want to politicise and dramatise the Constitution amendment processes for the simple reason of wanting to play to the gallery.
Mr Chanda said the Minister of Justice made an announcement over the Constitution Amendment Bill that there would be wide consultations with all Parliamentarians and party secretary generals would be engaged before it was tabled.
He said this yesterday during the PF interactive forum in Lusaka.
“The UPND moved from the impeachment motion which was not attainable to the parentage and the nationality motion of President Edgar Lungu with a sole purpose of discrediting him which failed and now they want to create drama on the constitution amendment,” Mr Chanda said.
He said the UPND had proved to the Zambians that they were unable to offer the Government checks and balances as they were preoccupied with attacking the PF and President Lungu.
Mr Chanda said the UPND frustrated the Referendum and now want to block the Constitution Amendment Bill but, however, they had no capacity to block it once it was taken to Parliament.
And Lunte Member of Parliament Mutotwe Kafwaya said the UPND had nothing to offer Zambians and had continued bringing up irrelevant things like lying to the people that they had a Presidential petition in court.
Mr Kafwaya advised the UPND to change their ways and modify their party so that they become relevant by developing a framework for ensuring that they offer checks and balances to the party in Government.
