OPPOSITION National Democratic Congress (NDC) has described as a bitter lesson the decision by its Chilanga parliamentary by-election candidate Webster Katongo to shy away from filing in his nomination papers and subsequently defecting to the ruling Patriotic Front (PF).
NDC spokesperson Eric Chanda described Mr Katongo’s move as treachery and that the behaviour had left the entire party membership wondering because his action was ‘immoral, beyond imagination and a big blow’ to the party.
“Yes, as NDC, we have learnt a bitter lesson from the treacherous behaviour of Mr Webster Katongo, the NDC preferred candidate for Chilanga Constituency by-election. It is indeed a bitter experience,”
Mr Chanda said in an interview.
Mr Chanda was reacting to Mr Katongo’s decision not file in his nomination papers for the Chilanga parliamentary by-election on Thursday last and his move to ditch the NDC to join the PF alongside
more than 100 of his followers on Sunday.
Mr Chanda, however, declared that the NDC would not move backwards following the lesson it had learnt and he challenged the party’s members to up their game and think ahead of the party’s enemies so that NDC could not find itself in a similar predicament.
He wished Mr Katongo well in his political endeavours.
