THE Luanshya Municipal Council (LMC) has embarked on a K1.5 million peri-urban road rehabilitation project after the council’s engineering department concluded a road survey.
Luanshya Mayor Nathan Chanda said the project was aimed at opening up new areas for agriculture activities using locally generated resources.
Mr Chanda said the project for grading and gravelling feeder roads were important not only to farmers but also to help ease movement of goods to and from the market especially where the roads were impassable.
He appealed to the business community to partner with the council and help with logistics like donating fuel to use in earth moving equipment to rehabilitate the roads.
This is contained in a statement made available by LMC public relations manager Gideon Thole yesterday.
“Luanshya residents should be patient with the local authority over the delayed commencement of road rehabilitation works in the town. I have received enquiries from residents who want to see some road rehabilitation works,” he said.
He assured the residents that Government through the Road Development Agency (RDA) commenced the process which would culminate into road rehabilitation works now that the rains were over.
Mr Chanda said Luanshya was expected to have the 45 km Fisenge-Masangano road and from Kitwe turn off to Luanshya civic center under the Ndola-Lusaka dual carriage way worked on.
He said the town had 60.8 km road make over under the C-400 project and that Housing and Infrastructure Development Minister Ronald Chitotela recently announced an additional 50 km to be rehabilitated by China Henan under the township road project.
