By ADRIAN MWANZA and RONALD CHAWE –
ZAMBIAN clubs’ all-round wins in the continental games have received praises with some quarters saying it was testimony that the Zambian league is one of the best on the continent.
Setting off the praises was Defence Minister Davies Chama who saw two sides directly under his umbrella – Green Buffaloes and Green Eagle s- both win by identical 2-0 at home in the Confederations Cup.
CAF Champions League sides Zesco United and NKana also won with identical 2-1 scorelines away.
Chama said the wins by the defence force sides were encouraging and urged them to push on and go far in the competition.
“Buffaloes played well and I’m sure we are going to beat Al Merreikh in Sudan. The expectations are very high and they should continue with the same spirit of winning,” he said.
Chama urged the two sides to replicate the same form in the local league once it resumes.
And Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President Andrew Kamanga says the four wins by the four Zambian sides shows the Zambian league is one of the best on the continent.
Kamanga said his association was particularly delighted that two of the victories were recorded on foreign soil.
“The results underscore the widely acknowledged fact that the Zambian league is among the best on the continent. We are hopeful that the strides these clubs are making on the continent will drive our game further up,” he said.
