Mayimbo stuns GM

ZAMBIA’S Clement Mayimbo put up a splendid fight to hold Russian Grand Master (GM) Alexander Raetsky in the opening game at the ongoing Zambia Open at Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
Mayimbo, who is Project Chess Zambia (PCZ) coordinator and Andrew Kayonde’s manager, stunned many as he was not given a chance against the GM with a rating of 2387 compared to his 2037.
As Mayimbo forced a stalemate, the Zambian trio of Robson Kameya, Bright Muyenga and Mushota Kantalamba faced challenges against GMs Petr Kiriakov of Russia, India’s Sahaj Grover and Egyptian Hesham Abdelrahman respectively, who notched victories at first attempt.
