THE Human Rights Commission (HRC) has opposed the removal of the recognition of multi-religions from the Constitution’s preamble and the reintroduction of deputy ministers as provided by the Constitution Amendment Bill Number 10 of 2019.
Stating its position on a number of proposals contained in the proposed Constitution Amendment Bill No 10, the HRC has called for the holding of a national referendum on the expanded Bill of Rights separate from general elections.
Presenting the commission’s submission before the parliamentary select committee considering the Bill at Parliament buildings yesterday, HRC director Florence Chibwesha said the reintroduction of deputy
ministers would be costly on the national Treasury.
