ALL is set for tomorrow’s burial of first President Kenneth Kaunda at the Embassy Park in Lusaka.
The burial will mark the end of the 21-day period of national mourning for Dr Kaunda during which period his remains were taken to all the 10 provinces of Zambia for afford the citizens to pay their last respects to the man who led the fight against colonial rule and held the office of president for 27 years between 1964 and 1991.
Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga said in Lusaka yesterday that tomorrow’s event would be a largely private, family affair, with only a few invited guests invited.
“The burial will be private…for close family members and a few invited guests both foreign and local,” Mr Malupenga said.
Mr Malupenga who spent part of yesterday checking on the preparations said the requiem service would be held at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, after which the body would be taken to its final resting place, the Presidential Burial site.
He said all official information regarding the burial of Dr Kaunda was being given to the public through the Government and while former first family had also resolved that it would communicate through Colonel Panji Kaunda, through the Government.
