Four die in Serenje crash

FOUR people have died in a road traffic accident in Serenje along the Great North Road while in Mumbwa an angry mob beat up the driver before setting the motor vehicle ablaze after he run over a pedestrian.
The Serenje accident happened around 20:00 hours on Saturday when the Noah bus which had eight people on board had a tyre burst before overturning killing four people including a baby.
Central Province police chief Standwell Lungu said three people died in Serenje District Hospital while the baby died on the spot.
Four other passengers are nursing injuries in the same hospital.
The bodies of the deceased are lying in Serenje District mortuary awaiting identification.
In the Mumbwa accident, the driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero registration number ABR 8549 identified as Norman Chibesa is nursing injuries in hospital after  the mob beat him up.
He ran over un identified man.
In Chisamba, police have picked up a body of an unidentified man who died after he was hit by a Scania bus as he attempted to cross the Great North Road.
Police  are holding the driver identified as Patrick Mumba Kapoli who was driving the 69-seater Scania coach registration number ARB 445 belonging to Ticklay bus services.
He allegedly run over a pedestrian after he failed to apply breaks killing him on the spot. The accident happened around 02:00 hours near Golden Valley farms in Chisamba.
