Thieves attack guard, rob Ndola clinic

FOUR unknown people armed with iron bars attacked a guard and broke into Ndeke Clinic in Ndola’s Ndeke Township in the early hours of Sunday.
The armed robbers got away with medicine in an incident that happened around 03:00 hours.
Copperbelt police chief, Joyce Kasosa said in an interview yesterday that the four men armed with iron bars attacked the guard, Jackson Kalobwe, 44, of Lubuto Township who was guarding the clinic and tied him to a tree with wires and shoe laces.
Ms Kasosa said the four then broke into the clinic and stole various medicines, vaccines and a computer.
She said the value of what had been stolen was not yet known.
Ms Kasosa said no arrests have been made and police had opened a docket of aggravated robbery.
“We are appealing to members of the public to be alert and give police any information linked to this incidence. Any information is important because it involves medicine and a computer belonging to a clinic,” she said.
And a 49-year-old man of Chansongo Village in Chief Kazembe’s area in Mwansabombwe District was found murdered in a canal leading to Luapula River.
Luapula Province police chief Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that the body of Joseph Matipa who was murdered by unknown people and his body thrown in the canal flowing from Salanga Village in Chief Mwata Kazembe’s area to Luapula River.
Mr Matipa was found by passersby, Jonas Mushota, Chola Kabesa, Chibu Shame and Moses Kapesa who were paddling on the canal connecting to the Luapula River on Thursday around 06:30 hours.
Mr Mulenga said police recorded the death as murder after a body check revealed that the body had cuts on the face and head.
Blood was still oozing from the wounds when the body was found.
Mr Mulenga said Mr Matipa’s body has been taken to Mbereshi Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
