By MOSES CHIMFWEMBE –
MORE than 100 karatekas have been selected to represent Zambia at the 2014 Zone Six Championships which will be held in Lusaka from June 26-29 at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre (MICC).
The 103 karatekas were picked during the final selection trials held at the National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) in Lusaka at the weekend.
Prominent among those who made it to the team are Jeff Kashiko and Harrison Mufana of Chingola, Ernest Musenge, Lombe Lombe and Marvin Phiri from Mufulira.
Others are the Ndola duo of Robert Chisanga and Asa Chibeka, Kitwe’s Edward Mwenda and Emmanuel Musenge, Mike Siazilo of Mazabuka and Livingstone’s Abdallah Siadombozia.
Melvin Siwale, Kelvin Yamboto, Joseph Kashweka and John Phiri are the Lusaka-based karatekas who made the team.
And tournament organiser Munyarazi Mangaba said in an interview yesterday that the number in the team would increase to 120 because as hosts, Zambia needed to have more karatekas in case of any eventualities.
He expressed happiness with the level of skill in the Zambian contingent, saying it was a positive indication ahead of the Zone Six Championships.
