AN economist has said the recent hike in fuel pump prices and the imminent increase in electricity tariffs will make it difficult for the country to attain single digit inflation for 2022.
Biemba Maliti said 2022 seems overcast due to the current debt burden, high inflation, the depreciating Kwacha and the outbreak of the Omicron variant.
Professor Maliti said although the fuel increment was foreseeable, a gradual and phased approach would have helped consumers adapt thereby minimising economic harm.
