Zambia burning two million tonnes of charcoal annually

ZAMBIA is currently consuming two million tonnes of charcoal annually, degrading 250,000 hectares of land over the same period, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has revealed.
USAID Alternatives to Charcoal (A2C) Catherine Picard has since proposed liquefied petroleum gas, biogas, ethanol and processed biomass as some of the alternatives for citizens to utilise for processes such as cooking.
