By PERPETUAL SICHIKWENKWE in Kinshasa –
PRESIDENT Michael Sata has called for hard work among Zambians living in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Mr Sata has since urged Zambians in DRC to take advantage of their presence to market Zambia.
The President made the call on Tuesday evening when he addressed the Zambian community at the residence of Zambia’s Ambassador to DRC, Fidelis Kapoka.
The Head of State who is accompanied by First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba and his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations, George Chellah is in DRC to attend the two- day Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) Heads of State and Government summit that opened yesterday.
Mr Sata said Zambians should emulate the Congolese whom he said were hard working, saying there was a lot that Zambians could learn from them.
“There are many Congolese back in Zambia and we know them when we see them. They are working hard to make money, but why are you people here just seated and doing nothing?” he said.
Mr Sata also urged the Zambian community not to involve themselves in illegal businesses but work hard to earn a better living.
He said Zambia and DRC had continued to partner in trade as such, the people of Zambia had a lot to learn from Congolese.
“… Use your presence here to market your country. Show these people what kind of people you are back in Zambia. Do not involve yourselves in illegal businesses,” he advised.
And Mr Kapoka said the embassy was grateful to host President Sata and wished him successful deliberations at the COMESA summit.
