A WILDLIFE officer has allegedly lost control of his AK-47 rifle and shot dead two people and injured others in an attempt to disperse villagers scrambling for elephant meat after gunning down the two stray animals.
The officer’s heroic status after tracking down the elephants in Pemba District vanished quickly after the fracas, where he ended up being battered by the angry villagers, he attempted to disperse.
