INFORMATION and Broadcasting Services Minister Mwansa Kapeya has called on civil servants to rise above politics and embrace the Government of day to promote national development.

Mr Kapeya said it would be a sheer waste of time for public workers to plot against the Government because development was for everyone regardless of political affiliation.

The minister was speaking on Friday in Shagombo District Council when he addressed civil servants.

“The goodness with you is that you are permanent, you are the government while us politicians come and go, so please work with us, it is like you are the owners of the country,” Mr Kapeya said.

He said some civil servants were geared to plot against the Government in the name of ‘fixing it’ when they were supposed to be engineers of development.

Mr Kapeya, who is chief Government spokesperson, said any development being carried out by the Government was done on behalf of the people because no political party would take that away when they left office.

Civil servants would have nobody to blame if development slackened in remote districts like Shangombo.

“You civil servants like saying ‘let’s fix them’, you are fixing yourselves because you are the agents of development. There are so many people in need of your positions, so you need to work hard in those positions,” he said.

Mr Kapeya urged them to leave a legacy of good work wherever they were sent to serve in the nation.

The minister also urged the civil servants in the area to support Sinjembela Member of Parliament Poniso Njeulu who, is also his deputy, saying he had a good vision for the area as he was in direct contact with the Government.
