By CHATULA KANGALI-
MORE than 200 sawmillers have moved their operations from Ndola to Kitwe and Kalulushi following the depletion of mature pine trees in the district.
The sawmillers moved operations to Kitwe and Kalulushi where the raw material was in abundance.
A check in Ndola found a few saw millers with old stock while most of them were demolished.
Zambia Forest and Saw millers Association president Davies Kabamba confirmed the shutdown of the sawmills in Ndola stating that the depletion of pine trees was as a result of increased demand which was threatening the future of the sawmilling business.
