Mufulira tailings dam needs $18m rehab

THE Ministry of Mines, with funding from the World  Bank has submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to  rehabilitate  the tailings dam in Mufulira District at the cost of  US$18 million.
The ministry is implementing the Zambia  Mining Remediation and Improvement Project (ZMRIP) with an objective of rehabilitating  and closing some of the environmental liabilities that have been  accruing from the past.
The ZMRIP was being implemented with the long-term social economic development  objectives of the vision 2030 which included the  reduction of environmental health risks.
