THE nation would have been plunged into a more serious catastrophe due to plant failure if a decision had not been taken to shut down two of the six Zesco turbines at the Kariba Dam.
Zesco board chairperson Vicson Ncube revealed in Siavonga yesterday that the water levels were so low, that if the two turbines had not been shut down, they would have started sucking in sand.
