1 killed in North-West road crash

ONE person has died and 11 others injured in a road traffic accident on Mutanda-Mwinilunga Road in North-Western Province.
North-Western province deputy commissioner of police Micheal Nkaka said a Toyota Hiace, registration number ALK 5517, overturned twice after it careered off the road.
Mr Nkaka named the deceased as Alex Kakisa, 28, of Solwezi West, who died on the spot, while 11 others, who included three children, sustained multiple injuries.
He said the accident happened around Kisasa area in Chief Musele’s chiefdom at the weekend when the passengers were travelling to Solwezi.
Mr Nkaka said the 11 were admitted to Solwezi General Hospital and included three children  aged seven, 11 and 16 years.
And a man died on the spot while two others sustained injuries when an Ipsum he was travelling in overturned several times on Chipata-Lundazi Road. This was after the driver lost control of the vehicle.
Eastern Province police commissioner Grace Chipalila confirmed the accident which happened on Saturday around 13:00 hours at Vizenge.
Nobeto Shumba, 56, who was a passenger on the vehicle, died on the spot while the driver, Malengu Shumba, 33, of New Chilenje of Lusaka sustained body injuries.
Ms Chipalila said the accident happened when the driver wanted to avoid an oncoming vehicle.
