Mwekera mine rescue mission gets boost

SPECIAL diving equipment has been sourced from South Africa to rescue seven miners, who have remained trapped underground for a week at Macrolink Resources Zambia mine in Ndola’s Mwekera area.
The diving equipment would help Zambia Army Special Forces divers to reach the depth of 154 metres the location of the pump chamber and reach the victims, who include two Chinese and five Zambians.
Ministry of Mines acting senior inspector mine safety department Lumba Kapotwe said yesterday when Government officials visited the mine to check on the progress in the rescue operation.
