THE State has opposed the application by former first lady, Esther Lungu to stay proceedings in a matter in which the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is seeking forfeiture of her 15 double storey flats and other properties in Chongwe to the State.
Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) Senior Investigations officer, Emmanuel Khondowe submitted that Lungu would not be prejudiced in anyway if the case before the Economic Financial Crimes Court (EFCC) continued pending the hearing of the appeal to the Court of Appeal .
DPP Gilbert Phiri had in the matter applied for non-conviction forfeiture to have Lungu’s properties forfeited to the State because they were tainted.
