11 Kabwe children test positive for high levels of lead in blood

ELEVEN children of Kabwe District have tested positive for high levels of lead in their blood following the resumption of lead testing in five health centres in the District.
Of the 11 children that were positive, six were from Kabwe’s Katondo Township with three from Kasanda and two were from Makululu Township.
Zambia Mining and Environmental Remediation Improvement Project (ZMERIP) a project spearheading lead mitigation in lead hotspots areas in the district, recently acquired a lead testing machine called Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICPMS) stationed at the Railways Surgery in Kabwe.
