By SANDRA MWILA –
GOVERNMENT has urged sports associations to work closely with the Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) in partnership with the Sports Education and Accreditation System (SEAS) in a bid to develop sports in the country.
SEAS is an operational Zambian sports education and accreditation framework that meets minimum and regional standards acceptable and adaptable by national sports associations and stakeholders in sports to increase participation and improve performance of coaches, officials and sports administrators by 2016.
Sports Permanent Secretary Agness Musungu, when officiating at a SEAS stakeholder’s sensitisation meeting held at the National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) in Lusaka yesterday, said there was need for associations to implement what will be taught seriously.
Musunga advised the association to implement whatever they would learn at SEAS for the betterment of the sports development in the country.
She said SEAS was working with the Ministry of Sports and SCZ therefore associations should feel free to interact with sports national motherbody to bring about change in the various associations.
“They are about 28 federations present at this meeting and from this meeting we expect to see change in associations that will bring about sports development. This meeting will focus on a framework to accommodate and harmonise the different frameworks from international sports federations,” she said.
She said SEAS programme was  important for sports administrators and coaches because what they learnt should be imparted in athletes.
“What you are trained under the SEAS programme should be taken seriously because it can help our athletes improve their performance at local and international tournaments,” she said.
