THE mother of an eight-year-old boy of Choma District, whose arms were amputated after being electrocuted, has thanked Continental Labour Based Road Contractor Limited executive director George Kakana for donating of K5,000 towards the upkeep of the boy.
Mark Makuwa was electrocuted on November 2, last year when he climbed a mango tree with branches leaning against a Zesco pylon at Tullamore Farms in Sibanyati area of Choma.
As Mark tried to pluck a mango from one of the branches, he slipped off and came into contact with an electrical cable and was electrocuted.
He was in Grade One at the time of the accident and was amputated at Livingstone General Hospital.
Mr Kakana at the weekend donated the K5,000 through the Sunday Times of Zambia.
Speaking at the Times of Zambia Choma office, Lonika Ng’andu, the mother of Mike, praised Mr Kakana for his generosity.
Ms Ng’andu, who could not hold back her tears of joy, described Mr Kakana as an angel who had lightened her burden in meeting the medical expenses.
“I don’t know what better words I can use to express my gratitude over the donation from Mr Kakana to my boy.
“I have been praying for assistance in any way and Mr Kakana has answered my prayers…ndalumba kapati ba Kakana (Tonga for ‘thank you very much Mr Kakana’),” she said.
Ms Ng’andu was supposed to take Mike for review at Livingstone General Hospital last week on Wednesday, but due to financial constraints, she failed.
She said now that Mr Kakana had come to her aid, she would take Mike for review tomorrow and assured that she would use the money prudently.
She praised the Times of Zambia for highlighting the plight of Mike from the time she recently visited Southern Province Minister Daniel Munkombwe’s office to seek for aid.
On Saturday, Mr Kakana said he wanted to see part of the K5,000 used to buy a bicycle for the boy to assist him with his mobility to school.
