THE Zambia Basketball Association (ZBA) has called off the eight-team pre-season tournament that was supposed to take place this afternoon at the Copperbelt University (CBU) courts.

ZBA vice president north, Andrew Nyirenda said in an interview that the tournament had been cancelled because the midlands teams that were invited had failed to travel.

The teams that were invited from the midlands league are Matero Magic alongside UNZA Pacers, LCC Looters and Green Eagles while Lunga Bullets, Ndola Nets, YMCA Stringers and CEC Cavs were supposed to represent the Copperbelt.

The tournament was aimed at testing the teams’ credentials to challenge for the championships as the Southern and Northern region leagues opens next month.

This two-day tournament dubbed ‘the clash of Titans’ will be held on a date to be announced and will see eight top national clubs, shared apiece from the two national leagues lock horns in the battle for supremacy.

“The pre-season tournament will not take place because our colleagues in Lusaka are facing logistical challenges and we have decided to hold it on a later date but the Copperbelt teams are willing to go ahead and play amongst themselves,” he said.
