GOVERNMENT has said the church has been weakened on account of poor leadership.
Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Stanford Msichili said it was sad to note that the Church had become weak due to poor leadership exercised at all levels.
Mr Msichili urged the Church leadership to always seek guidance from the Bible.
“The Bible provides clear instruction regarding leadership through the lives of its great leaders and specific teaching on the character, qualification and commitment of a spiritual leader,” he said.
Mr Msichili said this during a farewell service for Reverend Albert Bowa at the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) St Andrew’s congregation in Ndola yesterday.
Rev Bowa has been transferred to Mukuba Congregation in Kitwe.
Mr Msichili urged elders in the church to lead by example to inspire their parishioners.
He also urged members of the church to support the church financially for it to grow adding that ideally, the church was Government’s source of inspiration.
Mr Msichili commended the UCZ for its effort to compliment Government in helping the vulnerable people in society.
Consistory chairperson Shadreck Mulenga said the church had spearheaded a number of projects to help the vulnerable in society.
He said the church had constructed a modern house for a vulnerable person in Kantolomba Township and donated beds and mattresses to Arthur Davison Children’s Hospital mother’s shelter in Ndola.
He said the church was also establishing the first ever UCZ Chimwemwe Radio in Ndola which will start trial broadcasting soon.
And Rev Bowa in his farewell massage urged the congregants to continue working for the glory of the Lord and ensure that they finish all the programmes he had started.
