By MAYA NTANDA and KASONDE KASONDE-
GOVERNMENT has implored financial institutions to put up measures that will enhance the spirit of saving among Zambians.
Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Stanford Msichili said programmes such as the
introduction of banking products that would equip children and youths with lifelong
economic citizenship would inculcate the culture of saving.
Mr Msichili said during the 2014 Financial Literacy Week at Moba Hotel in Kitwe on Tuesday that it was important for financial institutions to put in place measures that would contribute to the country’s economic growth.
He said if combined with holistic education, such empowerments would enable children and youths to grow into well-informed, independent and responsible adults.
“I challenge financial institutions to put up measures that will enhance financial inclusion for all and encourage saving among Zambians.
Mr Msichili said this year’s commemoration of Financial Literacy Week was within
the Child, Youth and Finance International (CYFI) global money week that focused on young people.
