POLICE in Lusaka have arrested Jack Chipokola for allegedly assaulting former Zambia Army commander Nobby Simbeye’s daughter, Niza.
Zambia Police spokesperson Charity Munganga-Chanda said Chipokola, who gave himself in, had been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
By Press time, the suspect was still at Woodlands Police Station where he was formally arrested.
It was not yet clear when Chipokola would appear in court.
He had earlier alleged to have gone into hiding.
Ms Chanda said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the police had followed Chipokola at his residence and that his mobile phones were switched off.
Chipokola was alleged to have assaulted Niza over the weekend after a wedding reception.
She is currently nursing injuries at CFB Medical Care in Lusaka.
Her sister, Musanchi said Niza’s condition had slightly improved and that the family was awaiting results of a CT-scan she underwent yesterday.
Meanwhile, a police officer who suffered severe injuries in the land fracas that took place in Lusaka West at the weekend is still admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) while the other two have been discharged.
UTH spokesperson Mwenya Mulenga confirmed yesterday the discharge of the two and the admission of the others who were in a stable condition.
Suspected Patriotic Front cadres went on rampage on Sunday and started demarcating land in Lusaka West.
When the police tried to interfere, a fight erupted in which three police officers were injured.
