SHOPRITE Stores has pledged to donate foodstuffs to Harold Children’s Home in Luanshya every month for the next one year as a way to alleviate problems of orphans in Luanshya.
Shoprite Luanshya branch manager Ronald Changaya said in an interview that the store in Luanshya would be giving the children’s home food every month for a period of one year.
Mr Changaya said the aim of the donations was to cushion the living standards of distressed and traumatised children at the home.
“We donated foodstuffs which included mealie-meal, sugar, cooking oil and rice to the children today (yesterday). We will do this every month for the next one year,” he said.
Mr Changaya said Shoprite wanted to help improve the living standards of the orphans in Luanshya.
Harold Children’s Home, which is run by Jane Tembo, is located in Mikomfwa Township.
It is a non-profit making organisation run by eight committee members, and has been running for more than 20 years.
The home has 19 children, 10 of whom are below the age of 10.
